I think if you’re producing material consistently enough (weekly, every 2 weeks), Patreon can do a great job to grow a stable and engaged audience.
I think though too many writers don’t have a schedule or output that fits with a Patreon support model. It can be hard for a lot of writers to find their answer to “what am I giving and how frequently to justify X dollars per month from someone?”
I’ve never used it and honestly don’t know the answer to this: do people regularly post on patreon? I’ve only experienced it as something people link to.
They do. Some people (like me) produce multiple things a week there. Other people it's once a week or it's on a regular-but-not-entirely-scheduled basis. But it is and can be a place to gather people and get material to them.
